I finally submitted my manuscript for line editing today. It cost me a pretty penny, but in the long run, I think will be well worth it. Line editing is a bit different than editing for grammar or spelling. You see, I have to give credit to my mom, she and I reviewed my manuscript four times for those. Trust me, I’m not sure either one of us ever want to read my book again. Line editing goes through the content line by line to ensure that it is creative, concise, and consistent. It’s more about style and the content of the language. I don’t think I’ll ever self-publish without a line edit, unless I really really really can’t afford it. And yes folks, sorry, my mom got a sneak peek to the book before everyone else.
So, since writing this novel, I can’t seem to get myself in the groove of writing anything else yet. I’m not sure if it’s just too soon (I’m hoping) or if I have writer’s block. I’ve tried writing a couple of short stories – those were both duds. I haven’t even given myself permission to tackle another novel (although I do have another idea for one). Surprisingly, the only thing I can write at this point is poetry. I bought a little book online that explains all the different types of poems and how to format them and I’ve been writing poetry like mad. I’ve been writing poetry to the point that I’ve been submitting it to contests. Did you know that there are contests where you can win up to $25,000 for a single poem? I mean, I’m not saying I’m that good, but I’m certainly going to give that a shot. So, I have this little notebook where I’ve been writing all my poems and it’s surprisingly getting full. I can tell you I’d rather be writing short stories and / or another novel, but at least I’m getting something accomplished. I’d post one of my poems here, but since I’ve submitted them for contests, I’m not sure how the rules work if you’re allowed to publish anywhere else at the same time, so I’ll wait until I don’t win and then I’ll post them for you.
I’m not sure if anyone saw in my last post, but I’m doing a giveaway! I’m working on setting up an email address collector on this site, but until I get one, we’ll have to do this the old-fashioned way. My email address is: email@example.com If you send me your email address, you will be entered into a drawing to receive a free copy of my book, I Wanted to Remember, signed by yours truly! Now, I’ll be honest, the idea is that someday in the future I’ll be putting out a monthly newsletter of some sort just with what’s happening or what’s going on in my author world, in addition to this blog. But, like I said, that’s in the future, and I have a long way to go to get to work on it, so no worries! And I promise not to spam your inbox! So good luck with the giveaway!
That’s all for now,
